Job Description:
Lead Teacher, Early Childhood
Preschool (3-4 year olds)
2024-25 School Year (August through May)
Class size 16 children; 1:8 teacher:child ratio

Pembroke Hill School seeks a caring, growth-minded educator to join its early childhood team as a lead teacher. In partnership with a faculty assistant, the lead teacher builds community and encourages children to play, investigate, problem-solve, and construct new understandings in a welcoming, joyful environment. Lead teachers plan for and support children’s growth and development by observing, evaluating, and knowing children well and leading learning experiences and project work that build on student interests, motivations, and wonderings.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education, our faculty and staff believe in an image of the child as capable, curious, and eager to learn and make sense of the world. Lead Teachers serve as positive role models and guides for children, facilitate healthy and productive relationships, and implement student-centered curriculum and classroom routines. They make the process of learning visible through a variety of documentation techniques. Lead teachers engage families in meaningful ways, such as project work, guest experts, readers, and partners in children’s learning journey.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience of children aged two through five is preferred.
  • Embrace the philosophy of the Reggio Emilia Approach and Project Approach and a commitment to constructivism or progressive/experiential education. Previous experience is a strong plus.
  • Strong oral, written, and digital communication skills.
  • Digital skills include G-Suite, Microsoft, and iPadOS platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues
  • Experience leading and directing a teaching assistant in the classroom and collaborating with a team is preferred
The ideal candidate will model the school’s core values of respect, compassion, scholarship and integrity in all aspects of their professional lives, as well as, demonstrating a commitment to Pembroke Hill’s mission—Together, cultivating the best in each, for the benefit of all. The individual will demonstrate a passion for working with children aged 2-5, an understanding of their developmental needs, and a dedication to professional learning and growth.

Pembroke Hill seeks to fulfill our mission by recognizing that diversity, belonging, equity and inclusion are integral elements of school and community life. Our mission-inspired goal is together, cultivating each to be a global thinker and valuable member of the PHS community poised to acquire the academic and life skills that make a significant difference for all.

Benefits and Schedule:
The lead teacher position is based on the school year (August through May). During the school year, there are two 2-week breaks (December and March), one week at Thanksgiving, plus holidays, personal and sick bank days. There is a full range of excellent benefits, including health, dental, retirement match (up to 8%), professional development, PHS tuition remission, free lunch, and more!
